How to use Scanned receipt cleaner
- Choose a PNG, JPEG, or WebP receipt image within 10 MiB, 16,000,000 pixels and 8,192 pixels per side.
- Adjust brightness from -100 to 100 and contrast from 0% to 200%. Choose whether to convert the colors to grayscale.
- Select Apply adjustments. Compare the processed preview with the original, especially small numbers and faint text.
- Change the settings and apply them again if needed. Select Download PNG to save a separate image while keeping your original.
What these controls change
Brightness adds or subtracts an offset from the visible color values. Contrast expands or contracts their differences around the mid-tone. Optional grayscale combines the red, green and blue channels into a shared gray value. Transparency is preserved.
Increasing contrast may make already visible dark text stand out, but can also erase faint strokes or turn a background black. Raising brightness can wash out text. There is no automatic best setting; inspect the preview and keep the unedited original for reference.
The source determines what can be read
The tool adjusts existing pixels at the original dimensions. It does not recognize characters, crop or straighten the image, remove reflections, repair folds, or reconstruct a word covered by glare. A clearer photograph or a new scan is needed when the source does not contain readable detail.
This is a visual adjustment, not a verification of the amount, date, merchant or validity of a receipt. For financial records, compare every relevant field with the original. Do not use an adjusted image as a substitute for confirming the underlying transaction.
Supported images and local processing
Choose a PNG, JPEG, or WebP file no larger than 10 MiB (10,485,760 bytes). Images must have at most 16,000,000 pixels and at most 8,192 pixels on either side. PDF documents and multi-page scans are not supported. The output is a single PNG with the original width and height.
The processing code runs in this browser page without uploading the selected image bytes or saving processing history. The original is read without being overwritten. These statements do not cover browser extensions, your operating system, or a hosting provider's normal page requests. Browser memory limits may still prevent processing; in that case, the tool reports an error and offers no stale output.
Which format do you need?
| Your next task | Input or choice | Output or result |
|---|---|---|
| Reference the original receipt | Keeps the captured colors and brightness. | Changes the appearance of the same visible pixels. |
| Read text hidden by glare or damage | A new capture may be needed if text is absent. | Cannot recover absent, hidden or covered text. |
| Verify transaction facts | Compare with the actual transaction and original record. | No OCR, amount validation or authenticity check is performed. |
Questions about this tool
Can this make an unreadable receipt readable?
It may change the contrast of text that is already visible. It cannot recover missing or covered text. Review all numbers against the original; take a clearer photo or scan when necessary.
Can I choose a PDF?
No. This tool processes one PNG, JPEG or WebP image at a time. It does not read PDF documents or multiple pages.
What do the neutral settings do?
Brightness 0 and contrast 100% leave the color values unchanged when grayscale is turned off. Grayscale is on by default and replaces the three color channels with a gray value.
Are my original file and dimensions preserved?
The original file is only read. The output is a separate PNG with the same width and height, and its pixel transparency is preserved. Keep the original separately.
Is the receipt sent to a server?
This tool's processing code sends no selected image bytes to a server and stores no processing history. Normal page requests and your device or browser extensions fall outside that statement.
